This Project is about Traditions and Revolutions. Me and Haly Dang created „Webception“ to recall the visual aesthetics of personalized GeoCities home pages. With every clicked link the page randomly regenerates. The contained texts are generated with Marcov chains. After a little bit of research we recognized that many websites in the early 21 century were about people and their lifes. They had pages about their families, holidays, pets or friends. You could compare that attitude to people using Facebook nowadays. We noticed people didn’t really look after a good design back then, it often looked like they took random pictures and gifs. We collected specific gifs, backgrounds, images and borderlines to generate a database for our random function. In the end we put our webpage as iframe in an old ray tube monitor to complete the visual experience.
